Present — #05 | Weekend: open up first, then slow down

Today I chose:
Open · Slow down · Calm

Every day, I work with three words.
One to see.
One to do.
One to own.

Together, they form my Present set for today.

It is Saturday morning.

I walk through the house and notice something.

My head is still at work pace.

I pick up a plate.
Cut a slice of bread.
Already half standing before I have properly sat down.

As though I have somewhere to go.

As though something is waiting.

Then I realise.

It is the weekend.

And I am still in work mode.

SEE — Open

I sit down again.

Not to solve anything.
Only to look.

The table.
The light through the window.
The quiet in the house.

Looking with openness means:
not filling things in immediately.

Simply seeing what is there.

DO — Slow down

I put the kettle on for tea.

Not quickly between other things.
But calmly.

I wait for the water to boil.
Pour slowly.

Slowing down often turns out to be simpler than we think.

Sometimes it only means:

not immediately moving on to the next thing.

OWN — Calm

After a few minutes, I notice the difference.

My shoulders drop.
My breathing settles.

The world keeps turning.

But my pace does not always need to match it. I remain calm.

My plan for today is simple.

For an hour, I will do absolutely nothing.

Not because I have to.
Not because it is good for something.

Simply to return to my own pace.

Sometimes slowing down starts with doing nothing for a moment,
rather than doing less.

Reflection question

When did you last consciously take a moment to do nothing?
